Problem: A professor was teaching multiple sections
of the same course, they were interested in combining the sections in Blackboard
so that there was only one Blackboard course site to manage for all of the
sections.
Solution: Instructors are able to merge their courses
themselves through Blackboard. To do so they should go into the site in which
they would like to manage from, or use for teaching. In the control panel, then
should click on “Course Tools” > “Merge Course Enrollments”. (Screen shot of Merge Course Enrollments) In the “Instructor Course Merge
Module” page, the instructor should click on the link for “Merge Section
Enrollments Into this Course” From there it will have you create a name for the
parent course and then select the courses or sections you would like to add to
the parent course. All of the students will be copies from the child courses
into the parent course going forward automatically. In the Grade Center of the
parent (main) course, you can now see which original section the student was in
before the merge as a reference.
Note: The merge
function merges in the students from the child courses but does not merge or
copy course material itself. You will need to post the course material you wish
to distribute in the main parent course manually as you normally would, or use
the course copy function to copy material from one course site to another as
desired.
